JVC’s Wells tied for 24th in B boys’ meet

WATERTOWN — Carter Wells of James Valley Christian was within 11 strokes of the lead after the opening round of the Class B State Boys’ Golf Meet on Monday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
Wells finished the first 18 holes of the 36-hole event with an 87 to put him tied for 24th in the 114-golfer field. Austin Boomsma of Miller and Cody Cavanaugh of De Smet were just four strokes back at 91 to share the 42nd spot.
Jacob Messmer of Wessington Springs and Ryan Stahl of JVC both had scores of 95 in the opening round.

Devan Weelborg of Hamlin was the leader by one stroke with a 76. Brody Boltjes of Platte-Geddes, JJ Beck of Gregory, Nick Hansen of Great Plains Lutheran and Trey Christensen of Parker shared the second spot with scores of 77.
Great Plains Lutheran snagged the lead in the team standings with 239, while Platte-Geddes was second at 248. Parker was third at 251, followed by Hamlin at 258 and Ipswich at 262
