ALPENA — Karen Peterson, age 67, of Alpena, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Weskota Manor at Wessington Springs, with her family by her side.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Alpena.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Karen Beth Arwood was born November 2, 1953, to Loren LeRoy and Shirley Ruth (King) Arwood, at Huron. Karen graduated from Watertown High School in 1972, then attended Lake Area Technical College at Watertown and graduated with a degree in cosmetology.
On September 20, 1975, Karen married Mark Peterson.
Karen worked as a cosmetologist for many years and then worked in the school nutrition program at Alpena for many years.
Karen was an avid scrapbooker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; spoiling them, telling them stories and watching them play in their sports.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband of 47 years, Mark Peterson; her mother, Shirley Thompson; her children, Jay and Sheila Peterson, Jessica and Blaine Anderson and Laura and James Katz; and her grandchildren, Jayden, Jaya, Isaac, Oakley, Jacey, Kobe and Willow.
Karen is also survived by one brother, Donald Arwood; one sister, Valerie and Matt Swain; one sister-in-law, Kay and Frank Knoll; three brothers-in-law, Randy and Cindy Peterson, Bob and Diane Peterson and David and Darla Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and “adopted” family members.
She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Ross; one nephew, Brian; her grandparents; and in-laws.
