CARPENTER — Kay Gross, 77, of Carpenter, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls, under hospice care.
Her funeral service will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
 Kay Gross was born on June 16, 1942, in Huron, to parents Howard and Lillian (Tschetter) Weber. Kay was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale in 1943.
 Kay married Ivan Gross on September 9, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale, SD. Kay and Ivan farmed near Carpenter for many years. Ivan passed away on January 25, 2005. After Ivan passed, Kay remained on the farm continuing their love for the land. Kay remained on the farm until November 2019.
 Kay was a hairdresser for many years, owning and operating her own salon. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was also active in Carpenter United Methodist Church Ladies Aide.
 She is survived by her children, Lori (Rick) Hovde of Willow Lake, and Jared (Jean) Gross of Sioux Falls; Five grandchildren, Dusty (Jenna) Hovde, Jamie (Tyler) Tarbox, Misty (Jay) Leichtenberg, Brooklyn Gross, and Kaitlin Gross; Seven great-grandchildren, Beckham, Parker, Karsyn, Gracyn, Rowan, Miles, and Ivy K; sister, Faye (Ken) Hay of Parker; specials friends, Kathryn Wicks and Violet Wicks; and several nieces and nephews.
 Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan; one brother, Howard, Jr.; and grandson, Joshua Gene Gross in 1998.
 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Spectrum Matters: a learning center for children on the autism spectrum, 1103 2nd Ave SE, Watertown, S.D. 57201.
