Lady Warbirds claim title in Mitchell Invite

Huron dance team takes third place

MITCHELL — The Wolsey-Wessington cheer team turned in a flawless performance to win the title at the Mitchell Kernels Invite on Saturday.

The Lady Warbirds had a score of 230.50 with zero deductions to claim the championship.

“Coach Brandee and I are very excited for the Wolsey-Wessington cheerleaders. Each competition breeds different results and it was fun to score well,” Wolsey-Wessington coach Eden White said. “We have been trying some new elements with hopes of creating the best overall routine possible for us to compete with at the State Cheer Competition in Rapid City on Oct. 23.”

Mitchell was second at 228.50, while Brandon Valley was third at 218 and Rapid City Central was fourth.

Huron claimed the fifth spot with a 191.5, while Yankton was sixth in the 12-team event with 173.50.

The Huron dance team finished third overall with a score of 277.75.

The Tigers were second in jazz with a 286.5 and second in hip hop at 269.

Yankton won the dance title with 323.25, while Rapid City Central was second at 291.25. Mitchell was fourth at 266 and Aberdeen Central was fifth at 259.50.

Wolsey-Wessington returns to action Saturday at the Platte-Geddes Invitational in Platte.

Huron will be at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet at 5 p.m. Thursday in Pierre.
