Late rally helps Watertown to victory against Post 7

WATERTOWN — After going scoreless through the first six innings, Watertown erupted for seven runs during its final two at-bats to record a 7-6 victory against Huron in American Legion baseball on Thursday.
Huron also needed four innings to get on the board. Post 7 took the lead with three runs in its half of the fourth inning and added another run in the seventh inning to build a 4-0 advantage.
Post 17 ended its scoring drought in the bottom of the seventh inning with five runs to take a 5-4 lead.
Huron managed to pull even with a run in the eighth, but Watertown regained the lead with its final two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Post 7 did manage a run during its final at-bat in the ninth inning, but wasn’t able to match the total of seven runs for Post 17.

Highlighting the 13-hit effort in the game for Huron was a home run by Parker DeJean.
Finishing with two hits each for Post 7 were Chipper Shillingstad, Bryce Steffen, DeJean, Deion Waddle and Tyler Lein.
DeJean and Lein each had a pair of RBIs for Huron, while Ricky Strubel, Matt Katz and Daynon Huber each had an RBI.
DeJean started on the mound for Post 7 and pitched 6 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.
Steffen went the final 1 1/3 for Huron, allowing three runs on five hits, with a strikeout and no walks.
Tyler Fairchild, who came on in relief at the start of the eighth inning, earned the win for Watertown. He yielded just one hit in one inning of work.
Brayden Shriver pitched the first seven innings for Post 17, allowing five runs on 10 hits, with four strikeouts and a walk. Alex Gauer pitched the ninth inning to earn the save despite giving up one run on two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
Recording two hits each for Watertown, which had 11 total hits, were Tom Vener, John Day, Gauer and Micah Kauffman.
Huron returned to action Friday at the Aberdeen Tournament, which continues through Sunday.
