MILLER — Lawrence “Larry” Thiel, 83, of Miller passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 at his home in Miller.
A graveside service will be  4 p.m., today at Hillcrest Cemetery in Miller. Reception to follow at Turtle Creek Saloon.
A Celebration of Life will be held in October at Larry’s residence.
Larry was born on September 25, 1935, to Henry and Esther (Velder) Thiel. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1955, earning letters in both football and basketball. He then served in the Army until his honorable discharge in October of 1963.  
He had a part working on dams including Ft. Randall and Gavin’s Point. He was also a steel and iron worker in Seattle. He owned the current Turtle Creek Saloon with Ray Sommer and then with his brother, Joe. He was united in marriage to Lorraine “Lori” Griffin December 12, 1987, in Everett, Wash. They moved to Miller in 1995.
He is survived by his stepson, Jason (Brenda) Griffin of Canby, Ore.; stepgrandchildren, Hunter, Dylan, and Reagan Griffin; siblings, Joe (Judy) Thiel, and Corrine Krueger; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori; parents; and siblings, Clarence Thiel, Marian Haveman, and Helen Guthmiller.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Larry’s arrangements.
