Leola-Frederick Area edges JVC for third win

HURON — The Leola-Frederick Area Titans overcame a first quarter deficit, took control and then withstood a James Valley Christian Lady Viking comeback attempt in the fourth quarter to take home a 41-39 win Tuesday night at the James Valley High School gym.
Madellyn Nordine scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Titans to their third win on the season against 15 losses.
JVC, which falls to 6-13 on the season, got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Karilyn Wieting, while Josalyn Wipf added 10 points and Brenna Held claimed 10 rebounds. The Lady Vikings shot 5-14 behind the three-point arc, but converted only four of their 13 free throw attempts in the game.
JVC closes the regular season Friday night at Wessington Springs.

MILLER — The Sully Buttes Chargers sprinted to a 16-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back Monday night, taking a 61-32 win over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders in non-conference girls’ basketball action.
Lauren Wittler scored 22 points and snagged 10 rebounds to pace the Chargers, who improve to 11-7 with the win, while Kendra Kleven chalked up 15 points and passed out eight assists in the contest.
Lindsey Wilken scored 15 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Crusaders. Abby Haun had four assists in the game.
SBA, now 3-14, closes the regular season Friday, at Edmunds Central.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Kimball-White Lake WiLdKats outscored the Wessington Springs Spartans 36-16 over the second and third quarters Tuesday night, on their way to a 61-37 win in non-conference boys’ basketball.
Justin Becker scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the WiLdKats, now 15-4 on the season. Carter Fredricksen added 15 and Kordel Kiehn chipped in 11 points and had eight rebounds.

For the Spartans, Jacob Messmer had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the game, while Noah Hainy added 10 points.
Wessington Springs will host James Valley Christian on Friday.

MILLER — The Sully Buttes Chargers outscored the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders 20-4 in the second quarter, putting SBA into too deep a hole to dig out of, en route to a 70-56 win in non-conference boys’ basketball Tuesday night.
Cameron Ogle got a double-double for the Chargers, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Nick Wittler added 13 points and Morris Hofer scored 10 points off the Sully Buttes bench, as the team moved to 14-3 on the season.
Travis Hass led all scorers with 34 points for SBA, which falls to 3-14 with the loss. Jade Burma scored 11 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds.
SBA travels to Edmunds Central on Friday.

MILLER — Jharett Bloomenrader led three players in double-figures for the Highmore-Harrold Pirates, en route to a 73-47 drubbing of the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders Monday night.
Bloomenrader scored 27 and had 13 rebounds, as H-H pushed its season mark to 14-4. Remington Paynter added 18 points and Dylan McDonnell chipped in 10 points for the Pirates.
Sunshine Bible was led by Travis Hass’ 21 points, while Jade Burma chipped in 14 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds. EJ Big Eagle scored 10 points for the Crusaders, who fall to 3-13 with the loss.
Highmore-Harrold will host Potter County on Friday, while SBA is at Edmunds Central, also on Friday.

MILLER — Karst Hunter scored 50 points and had 18 rebounds Monday night, leading the Miller Rustlers to a 78-42 win over the Wessington Springs Spartans in boys’ basketball action.
Hunter had quarters of 17, 11 and 16 points before sitting for most of the fourth quarter en route to his 50-point output. Tyler Schumacher added 14 points and nine boards for the Rustlers, who improve to 5-9 with the win.
Wessington Springs was led by Tyler Kole’s 14 points off the Spartan bench.
Miller will travel to De Smet on Friday night, while Wessington Springs, which slips to 4-13, will play host to James Valley Christian, also on Friday.

IROQUOIS — The Florence-Henry Falcons rolled to a 26-6 second quarter advantage, breaking open a close game and cruising home with a 70-49 win over the Iroquois Chiefs in non-conference boys’ basketball action.
Mason Schroeder scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Falcons, who improve to 7-8, while Trajan Schmidt added 21 points for Florence-Henry. Charlie Kelly chipped in 10 points.
The Chiefs, who fall to 4-12 with the loss, got 18 points from Keistan Dubro and a dozen from Adam Keating.
