CARTHAGE — Lester Giles Hass, 86, of Carthage, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard with burial to follow in Pleasantview Cemetery at Carthage. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lester Giles Hass was born September 20, 1931, at Madison to Harry and Margit (Hjelmtveit) Hass. He graduated in 1949, from Fedora High School and enlisted in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Knapp.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Wynkoop July 27, 1954. He worked for more than 50 years as a drywall taper and finisher. His favorite hobbies were cat fishing and gardening. He was also an enthusiastic storyteller, and enjoyed playing the harmonica.
He is survived by his children, Debbie (Randy) Hanson of Sioux Falls, Donna (Neil) Palmlund of De Smet; five grandchildren; Trevor and Tyler Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; Christopher (Renae) Palmlund of Madison, SD; Benjamin Palmlund of Brookings, SD; six great-grandchildren; sister, Myrna Rybolt of Brainerd, Minn.; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; companion Delores Corbin; and sons, David in infancy, Brian and Darryl; and sister, Ardis Wallace.
