To the Editor:

After I watched the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection, I was saddened that only one Republican senator attended the commemoration honoring the law enforcement personnel, some of whom lost their lives protecting the lives of all members of Congress and the Vice President of the United States and by not attending, ignored the very people who prevented injury or death to them.

It seems ungrateful to me, that the very lives saved were not worthy of gratitude for their protection as I believe that the insurrectionists could have hurt or killed many people without law enforcement protection.

The insurrectionists were calling for the hanging of Vice President Pence, and I believe would have followed through if not for these very same law enforcement personnel.

I realize the Republicans would like to forget Jan. 6, but it is a fact. It happened.

I just hope the people of this country realize how close we came to losing our democracy and make sure it does not happen again.
