Letter - Heim 11-20-21

To the Editor:

Recently I was looking through the paper and an article caught my attention. I read an article about how gang activity is becoming more violent in the Rapid City area.

As a Christian in today’s world, I started to think about the two most important commandments and how Jesus says “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind”… the second is “like unto it, thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself.”

If we were to live out these commandments through our modern day lives, these problems wouldn’t occur. In addition, by following them and living out these Christian teachings where more love, mercy, and kindness happen, our world would become a better place.

Another thing I thought about was how we are supposed to be respectful to parents, teachers, police, and authority. If kids are respectful to their parents, it could create a better home life. Parents could spend more time with their children, eating meals together, helping them choose right from the wrong, and even going to church together.

If all of these things were happening in homes, we would see less kids in gangs.
