Letter to the Editor - Baker 10-9

To the Editor:
Upon receiving a call from the National Republican Committee, I was alarmed to be greeted with the statement, “Are you aware that the Democratic ‘Socialist’ Party is trying to impeach the president?” My reply was “The Democratic Party is not Socialist, but a party that believes in democracy.”
My Oxford American Dictionary states: Socialism - a political and economic theory advocating that land, natural resources and the chief industries should be owned by the community as a whole.

Any Democrat I have ever been in contact with certainly does not believe that, or follow that philosophy. The definition, in the same dictionary: Democrat - a person who favors democracy. Instead of rudely labeling a group, I would suggest that some thought and study go into such blind labels.
In regard to her statement, the Democratic Party is working on an investigative inquiry, regarding the president’s phone call with the leader of Ukraine. President Trump admitted making the call to find corruption on the Bidens - holding up around $400 million in aid which Congress approved months ago - unless the Ukraine official abided by his requested favor.
This was brought to light by a Congressionally protected whistleblower. This would have been hidden, except for that brave person’s revelation. If this is true, this is forbidden in our constitution. Can anyone who loves their country not be concerned about this action and not feel it should be investigated?
In my dreams, I wish there were no political parties and no labels, instead conscientious readers, studying and knowing exactly what is taking place based on honest facts, nationally, state-wide and locally.
