To the Editor:
I’m glad to see our governor is interested in protecting and promoting wildlife habitat. Here’s an interesting concept: there are 640 acres in a section. If each quarter (160 acres) put the interior most acreage (one acre or more) into permanent cover, there would be at least four acres, a half-mile from roads dedicated to habitat in each section.
Even if hunting were allowed, it would provide nesting habitat that would be available in the 36 sections per township, not including those seasonal areas caused by weather conditions.
This is far less than 1 percent of the tillable acres and in a block that could support wildlife and cut down on predation.
