HURON — Lila M. Schnabel, 83, of Huron, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at Avantara Huron.
Her funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Welter Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
Lila Mae was born April 15, 1939, in Beadle County on a farm near Alpena to Edward C. and Marena L. (Beck) Wagner.
Lila married John Schnabel June 2, 1956, in Huron at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. In 1960, Lila and John moved to La Puente, Calif. In 1963, they started an auto parts store- City Motor Auto Parts and CMP Warehouse, where Lila worked as the bookkeeper. Lila and John retired in 1998, and moved back to Huron in 2002.
In their free time, Lila enjoyed fishing with her husband. She also liked to bowl when the family lived in California. Lila and John had coffee with friends on Friday mornings, and on Saturday nights they enjoyed going out to eat with friends and then playing games.
Lila is survived by her husband, John of Huron; her three sons, Douglas (Stephanie) of Lennox, Steve (Christine) of West Covina, Calif., and David (Lauren) of Midlothian, Va.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Marylyn Huckins of Mohave Valley, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Rose (LeRoy) Slepikas, Arlene Counts, and Betty Pohl; three brothers-in-law, Don Schnabel, Wally (Pat) Schnabel, and Ben (Cherie) Schnabel; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Darrell Schnabel and Ray Huckins; and sisters-in-law, Judy Anderson and Darlene Schnabel.
