HURON — The Huron Tiger boys’ soccer team saw their season come to an end Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots 2-1 in a shootout at Tiger Stadium. No more information was available for the game before press time.
“It was a great game tonight,” said Huron coach Leah Branaugh. “The boys played well and really had control of the ball for a large part of the game. They worked had and played a great 100 minutes of soccer.”
Lincoln got on the board first at the 33rd minute of the first half and held the 1-0 led at the break. Huron got its lone goal in the 45th minute of the second half as Carson Duba fed Eduardo Trujillo, who hit the back of the net.
After the 10-minute overtime, the score remained tied, so it came down to penalty kicks. Thai Say and Sha Mu Sher converted for Huron, but the Patriots got three in to take the win.
“It’s a heartbreaking way to end the season but I’m proud of each of these players,” Branaugh said. “We are losing some great seniors but also have a great group coming back next year.”
