HURON — Three local churches will be holding a free weekend vacation Bible school July 28-30, which will include lots of s’mores.
“Camp Out VBS Getting S’more of Jesus” will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. for a celebration at First Presbyterian Church, with the collaboration of American Lutheran and Our Savior’s Lutheran churches.
At “Camp Out VBS,” kids from the age of 3 to those entering sixth grade will discover that Jesus is the light of the world through a fun, outdoorsy camping adventure.
The fun starts Friday at 6 p.m. with a sloppy Joe meal for the entire family. Kids will be assigned to their crew and meet their crew leader. Each crew will consist of an adult or older teen leader and four or five campers.

Saturday, everyone will gather in the sanctuary base camp at 9:30 a.m. for Music and More. Then children ages 3 to 5 will go to the Pup Tent Preschool to enjoy Bible adventures, games, and crafts, while the elementary crews will hike through three campsites: Bible Exploration, Projects-with-a-Purpose, and Wilderness Games.
Everyone gathers together again for the Closing Campfire. The day ends at 4 p.m. and includes a sack lunch and snacks.
In the Projects-with-a-Purpose area, the elementary children will be making G.U.T.S.Y. Bears. These stuffed bears will be donated to the Jan Manolis Family Safe Center to be given to children in need of comfort.
Another service project the kids will be participating in is collecting school supplies for BelieveFest, which distributes school supplies to  needy families. Each crew and pup-tent group will have a backpack to fill. The community is encouraged to help by bringing school supplies to the church.
A celebration for the whole family will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 30, in the sanctuary base camp, and will include a slideshow of all the campers enjoying “Getting S’more of Jesus.”
Pre-registration is encouraged to aid in purchasing materials, although last minute registrations will be accepted. Forms may be picked up at any of the participating churches or call 352-8789 to register your child.
