Local dentists provide free screenings

HURON — A free dental screening and oral health education was provided for fourth-graders at Washington school on Feb. 22. This is the fifth year for this event, which is organized by Dr. Jesse Fast and school nurse Rita Baszler.
The local dentists wanted to give back to the community, so Fast contacted Baszler and they organized screening, which they have seen work well in another community.
The purpose of the screening was to determine if the child has any dental needs and then classify those treatment needs based on urgency. Each parent received a copy of the screening form listing all local dentists so they could make an appointment for the child if it was recommended.

Also, dental hygienists and dental assistants provided oral hygiene instruction which includes proper brushing, flossing, diet habits, and other fun dental information. Each child received a free toothbrush.
Dentists that participated this year were Dr. Abigail Faul, Dr. Donald Mann, Dr. William Cahill, and Fast.
