Local writing groups participate in Write-In

Posted

HURON — Huron area writers from the James River Writers Group (adults) and from PentaWriters (Huron Public Library teen writers group) recently met jointly at Java Hut to participate in a three-hour Write-In. Individuals worked on a current project, then shared their work and offered critique. A similar write-in was held last February. Writer/editor Sallianne Hines is facilitator for both groups. Some members plan to enter pieces in the upcoming South Dakota State Fair. Several from both groups won ribbons last year and poets read their winning poems at the State Fair poetry reading.
The PentaWriters are working mostly on fantasy, science fiction, and poetry and learning writing skills. Check the Huron Public Library website or their Facebook page for meeting times.
James River Writers discuss publishing information, techniques and skills, and the writing life. They also share and critique each others’ writing, which includes novels (historic, women’s fiction, romance, epistolary, mystery, science fiction, fantasy and horror), short stories, cookbooks, essays, poetry, nonfiction, biography memoir and humor.

Anyone interested in writing and publishing is invited to attend the free meetings. The James River Writers Group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Huron Public Library. The next meeting will be July 24.
For more information call Sallianne Hines at 354-1921 or email her at shineswrites@gmail.com.
