Lois Theresa Konst, 94, formerly of Huron

SIOUX FALLS — Lois Theresa Konst, 94, formerly of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.


A funeral mass will be held in Huron at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a graveside Rite of Interment at St. Martins Cemetery.


Lois was born Sept. 20, 1927, on a farm in Hand Co., to Herman and Helen (Zens) Schaefers. She graduated from Polo High School in 1945 and St. Mary’s Nursing School in Pierre in 1948, while serving in the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corp from Aug. ’45 to Aug. ’48.


Lois married Paul Konst June 1, 1949, in Polo. She worked for many years as an RN while raising a family of nine children. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Nurses Association, was involved with Girl and Cub Scouts, was a RSVP and St. Francis Shop volunteer, and worked for years as an Election Judge.


Her interests included flowers, card playing and genealogy. She spent years gathering much family information and history for her authoring of “Cousins by the Dozens,” a family history.


She is survived by her children, Joseph (Mary) of The Villages, Fla., James (Sheri) of Katy, Texas, Michael (Ronda) of Meridian, Idaho, Patricia (Rick) Dvorak of Gladwin, Mich., Lyle (Danita) of Rapid City, Paula (Dan) Pengilly of Inkster, N.D., Anthony (Becky) of Chandler, Ariz., Kenneth (Vickie) of Midland, Mich, and Kathleen (Jeff) Kersting of Doha, Qatar. She is survived also by her brother, Raymond Schaefers; sisters, Doris Grieshaber, Monica Tielke, Maxine Holm, Connie Adams, Barbara Coyle, Ramona Fries, Sandra Alexander; 17 grandchildren; plus six great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2004; brother, Ambrose Schaefers; sisters, Phyllis Lammers, Joan Schiedel; and grandson, Timothy Konst.
