HURON — Margarete “Maggie” Hofer, 93, of Huron, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Avantara Huron.
Her Memorial Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Margarete was born on April 14, 1927, in Gmnunden, Austria to parents Reinhold and Katherina (Fuchs) Czerny. She grew up in Austria, attending school.
Maggie married Gilbert Hofer on December 6, 1947, in Salzburg, Austria. Gilbert and Maggie made their home in Huron, living on 1st Ave S.W. since 1950. Gilbert passed away on July 10, 1994. Maggie became a naturalized citizen in May of 1952.
Maggie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and gifted many of her designs to family and friends. Maggie ran a dry cleaner and Frank’s Hamburger Shop for many years. She always enjoyed when her Austrian family came to visit, especially her nephew Manfred.
She is survived by her nephews, Ervin Zimmer, Peter Zimmer, and Manfred Zimmer; great nephew, Father Eric Fuchs; and Godson Andrew Streifel and his family; and good friends, Barbara Lorenz, Judy DeJean, and Maria Streifel; and several of Gilbert’s nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Paula; her husband; her brothers, Reinhold Zimmer and Franz Fuchs.
