HOWARD — Martin Esser, 89, of Howard, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Howard. Visitation will begin Friday at 5:30 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., at the church.
Martin James Esser was born March 3, 1930, near Howard to Clarence and Frances (Feldhaus) Esser. He served in the U.S. Army in the 109th Engineers in Mannheim, Germany. He was united in marriage to Dolores Jeanne Gillen February 1, 1954. He farmed and raised livestock west of Canova until his retirement.
He is survived by wife; children, Dan (Carla) Esser, Dean (Darcy) Esser, David (Barb) Esser all of Canova, Linda (Loren) Koepsell of Sioux Falls, and Leanne (Cory) Eich of Epiphany; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Pasket of Minneapolis, Minn., Grace Durst of Mitchell, and Florence Bockorny of Huron; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Jones; stepfather, Beryl Tracy; and granddaughter, Allison Koepsell.
