HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recognized its May Exceptional Employee of the Month, Peggy Martinson, with a small department celebration earlier this month.

Martinson, who has worked as the development secretary for the HRMC Foundation for more than a year was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor.

According to the nomination, “Peggy started just before the 2019 big Papa Luigi event – she was thrown in and did whatever she was asked to do!”

“Peggy stepped up beyond her role and did a great job of holding down the Foundation office as the sole employee for more than a month until Shawn Martin was hired,” the nomination continued. “She is a fast learner who stays focused until the project is completed. Through all of this, Peggy has maintained a calm and pleasant demeanor.

”HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful, and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.

As May exceptional employee, Martinson received a small recognition reception with social distancing, flowers, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin, and a special parking place for a month.

Prior to joining the HRMC Foundation, Martinson worked at the Huron Plainsman as Circulation Manager and Pierce and Harris Engineering for the last 28 years.

“I am so grateful to be working for an organization that gives back to our community. It is so fulfilling,” said Martinson. “I feel really lucky to have joined such a great group and be able to give back to the community I love.”

Martinson and her husband, Glenn, who recently left Heartland Paper after 25 years and is enjoying working with the students at Madison School as a custodian, live in Huron. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, spending time outdoors, and traveling. She is especially thankful for all her travels with her grandchildren.
