WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Mary Gohring, 72, of Wessington Springs, passed away Monday July 24, 2017, at her residence.
A memorial service was held Saturday July 29, at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs.
Mary Carol Gohring was born February 16, 1945, in Wessington to Christabel (Mitchell) and Draper Sievers. She attended rural country school through eighth grade and graduated from Wessington High School in 1963. She went on to graduate from SDSU with B.S. Degree in Mathematics in 1967.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth (Tiny) Gohring on July 1, 1967. She taught for over 30 year with seven years being in Huron, nine years in Alpena, and retired in 2011 after 17 years in Wessington Springs. In 2010, she was awarded the South Dakota Outstanding Physical Science Teacher award by the South Dakota Science Teacher Association. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband; children, Michael (Melanie) Gohring of Clear Lake, and Nicole (Christopher) Morrow of Lakewood Colo.; siblings, Betty (Bud) Sulser of Augusta, W.Va., and Henry (Jackie) Sievers of Huron; grandchildren, Zachary Frank and Gracyn Gohring of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death her parents; brother, Jim; nephew, Ellis; and cat, Calico.
