Melba Lois (Schamp) Galliger, 88, of Rapid City

RAPID CITY — Melba Lois (Schamp) Galliger, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 20, 2022.


She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be forever loved and missed dearly.


Melba Lois Schamp was born on August 4, 1933, to Joseph and Dorothy (Walcher) Schamp and was raised in Bonilla. The 6th of 7 children, she had a spark for life that was contagious.


She met the love of her life, Camden Galliger, in school. He was the neighbor boy and they married in 1955, while he was on furlough and in the Army. They resided in Huron most of their life. Two daughters came from this union: Kim in 1957, and Julie in 1960.

Melba worked at various occupations - Sears and Roebuck Catalog Sales, Armour and Company Packing Plant and retiring from Swift and Company in Huron. She sold Avon for many years.
She was baptized in the Presbyterian faith in Bonilla, and was a faithful member, teacher and mentor at First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Melba was also a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.


Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 66 years, Camden; daughter, Kim Crump of Rapid City; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Craig Olivier of Johnson Siding; granddaughters, Cammy Olivier and her daughter, Aubrey Olson; Chelsey (Gunnsteinn) Steinarsson and their children, Magni and Saga; Jenna (Colt) Brown all of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Danielle Crump (Dustin Muhm) and their son, Skylar of Rapid City; Brittany (Nick) Trandahl and their children, Lily, Holly and Story of Upton, Wyo.; brother, Darrel (Sharon) Schamp of Great Falls, Mont.; brothers-in-law, Jerry Galliger and Don Fritzsche, both of Huron.


Melba was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; one son-in-law, Dale Crump; two brothers; three sisters; five brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.


Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.


A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.


Following the graveside service, lunch will be served along with a time of sharing at the American Legion 818 E Saint Patrick St, Rapid City.
