VOLGA  — Michael Charles Hiltunen, 49, of Volga, formerly of Howard, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 21, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery at Howard. Visitation will begin Sunday at noon till 4 p.m. at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, and resume with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and Reflections at 7 p.m., all at the church in Howard.
Michael was born April 7, 1969, in Madison to Rusty and Mary Hiltunen. He graduated from Howard High School in 1987, and from Augustana College in 1992.
He was united in marriage to Heather Adler in 1993. He purchased Rusty’s Food Store with his brother, Rick, and co-owned it until 2010, when he and Heather moved to Custer. There he bought Custer County Market and owned it from 2010 to 2015. In recent years he worked for USA Payroll and Harms Oil. He was also a well-known hunting guide in the Black Hills.
He is survived by his wife, Heather; children, Erik, Peyton (fiancé Tabin Elmore), Trent, Kendra, and Brady; his father, Rusty; siblings, Rick (Pam) Hiltunen, Scott (Lynn) Hiltunen, and Jamie O’Brien; a nephew, and many nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.  
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; nephew, Michael; and his grandparents, Tom and Myrtle Attletweedt.
