RAPID CITY — Pierce Baumberger finished 14th to help the Miller boys’ cross country team to a fifth-place finish in the Class A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.
Baumberger had a time of 17:43.28 to lead the Rustlers and earn all-state honors.
Sioux Falls Christian claimed the Class A boys’ team title with 26 points, while Vermillion had 60 to edge St. Thomas More by four points for the second spot. Custer was fourth at 70 and Miller was fifth at 120.
Cody Farland of St. Thomas More won the Class A boys’ race in 16:15.55, while Isaac Davelaar of Sioux Falls Christian was second at 16:22.40.
Also helping Miller to the strong finish were Alex Schumacher, who was 38th at 18:23.67 and Caden Gortmaker, who was 51st at 18:47.88. Kellan Hurd was 75th for the Rustlers at 19:20.44.
Tyler O’Neill was the top runner for Clark/Willow Lake at No. 49 with a time of 18:43.55, while Gunnar Kvistad finished 57th at 18:58.55.
Abby Cutler won the Class A girls’ race in 19:16.57 to help Hill City to the Class A championship. Sioux Falls Christian was second at 74, followed by Custer at 82, Milbank at 87 and Chamberlain at 92.
Gabby Werdel of Miller finished in spot No. 102 with a time of 23:29.41, while Ellie Gates was 113th at 24:40.87.
Daniel Batchelor led Clark/Willow Lake, finishing 108th at 23:54.00. Alicia Vig was 112th for the Cyclones at 24:33.58.
