Miller girls, JVC boys win titles in De Smet

DE SMET — The Miller girls and the James Valley Christian boys won titles during the De Smet Invitational held Tuesday at the Kingsbury Country Club.

Miller finished with a score of 292 to edge Sioux Valley by a stroke for the girls’ title. James Valley Christian was third at 324.

Jayce Pugh of Miller was the girls’ medalist with a round of 87, while Julie Steffensen of Sioux Valley was second at 90.

Olivia Rink of JVC and Laryn Stevens of Sioux Valley had scores of 97 to share the third spot.

Kaihlyn Anderberg of Miller was fifth at 100, while teammate Mackenzie Kopecky carded a 105.

Angelina Zuccaro shot a 106 for James Valley Christian, while teammate Lily Hofer finished at 121.

Ivey Schoenfelder led De Smet with 108, while Jacie McCune and Emma Sudenga finished at 110 and 111, respectively.

Using a score of 245, James Valley Christian edged De Smet by three strokes for the boys’ title. Wessington Springs was third at 261.

Tanner Preheim of Deuel turned in a low round of 76 to earn the medalist honors.

Jevin Goertz of JVC was second at 78, while Cody Cavanaugh of De Smet shot a 79 for third.

Fourth place went to Logan Vavruska of Florence/Henry with an 80, while Ryan Stahl of JVC rounded out the top five with an 83.

Ethan Bartholow of JVC and Rett Osthus of De Smet had rounds of 84, while Ethan McCune of De Smet and Jacob Messmer of Wessington Springs finished at 85.

Blake Larson and Broke Krueger of Wessington Springs had scores of 86 and 90, respectively.

Collin Schmiedt led Sanborn Central/Woonsocket with a 114, while Xavier Baysinger had 117 and Brody Miller had 125.
