Miller hands Wildcats first loss of the season

MILLER — Volleyball titans collided Tuesday night, when Northwestern, the two-time defending state Class “B” champion traveled to Class “A” third-ranked Miller. Northwestern came into the game with a 10-0 record, but made the trip home with its first loss of the season.
The Miller Rustlers dropped the first two sets to the Wildcats, 20-25 and 25-23, then began clicking, taking the next two sets 25-20 and 25-19, then held on the deciding fifth set, 16-14.
Kadye Fernholz registered 33 kills and added 18 digs for the Rustlers, who improve to 7-2 on the year. VonnaGail Schlechter and Josi Stevens each added nine kills and Elise Brooks accounted for six aces. Rachel Oligmueller had 57 assists in the game. Schlecter led the defense with 26 digs in the match.
Northwestern got 21 kills from Caitlyn Fischbach, Sydney Schell had 12 kills, three blocks and had 15 digs and Madalyn Groft had 11 kills, and passed out 45 assists in the match. Tya Weideman had 26 digs and Miranda Thorson added three ace serves for the Wildcats.
Miller travels to Faulkton Area tonight.
