MOBRIDGE — Top-seeded Miller used set scores of 25-18 and 25-19 to defeat third-seeded Sully Buttes in the championship match of the Central South Dakota Conference Tournament on Saturday.
The Rustlers opened the tournament with 25-9 and 25-13 set wins against eighth-seeded Highmore-Harrold.
In the semifinals, Miller defeated fifth-seeded Wolsey-Wessington with set scores of 25-15 and 25-18..
Wolsey-Wessington upset fourth-seeded Potter County with back-to-back set scores of 25-23 in the opening round.
The Warbirds would finish fourth after suffering setbacks of 25-17 and 25-18 to Mobridge-Pollock in the third-place match.
Potter County defeated Highmore-Harrold 25-21 and 25-14 while Faulkton Area defeated Sunshine Bible Academy 25-19 and 25-15 in the consolation semifinals.
Potter County would defat Faulkton Area with scores of 25-14 and 25-18 in the consolation title match. Highmore-Harrold claimed the seventh spot against SBA with scores of 25-13, 24-26 and 25-12.
Kadye Fernholz and Annie Keeter were named to the CSDC all-tournament team for Miller, while Rachel Guthmiller and Lauren Wittler were selected from Sully Buttes.
Also named to the all-tourney team were Chantel Haider of Wolsey-Wessingotn, Molly Lahren of Mobridge-Pollock, Peyton Melius of Faulkton Area, Brooke Neiderbaumer of Faulkton Area, Kori Hansen of Potter County and Becca Buchholz of Highmore-Harrold.
Iroquois competes in tourney
ELKTON — Hills Beaver Creek of Minnesota went 5-0 to claim the top spot in the Don Magnus Memorial Tournament on Saturday in Elkton.
Elkton-Lake Benton was second with a 4-1 mark, while Alcester-Hudson was third at 3-2. Rounding out the field of teams were Dell Rapids St. Mary (2-3), Irene-Wakonda (1-4) and Iroquois (0-5)
