SPEARFISH — Tom McGough of Miller will be inducted into the South Dakota Cross Country Track and Field Coach Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony Saturday at the Class A State Track Meet in Spearfish.
Also among the 2021 class of inductees are Connie and John Nyhaug, Gene Brownell, Dan Fitzsimmons and Jim Fuller.
McGough, who is a 1969 graduate of Stanley County, taught and coached in Langford, Bowdle and Doland for seven years before moving to Miller, where he has been a longtime coach.
McGough has served as the head girls’ track and field coach for 40 years. He has also been the head boys’ track and field coach for 38 years, along with serving as the head boys’ and girls’ cross country coach for 35 years.
McGough has also served as a head boys’ basketball coach for 10 years and head girls’ basketball coach for one year.
Additionally, he has also served as an assistant coach for track and field (7 years), volleyball (1 year) football (9 years) and boys’ basketball (2 years).
McGough has shared his journey with his wife, Rosmary, and their two children, Jodie and Chad. They have eight grandchildren.
