Miller’s Moncur eighth in Class B girls’ tourney

WATERTOWN — Miller junior Erin Moncur shaved four strokes from her score in the second round of the Class B State Girls’ Golf Meet on Tuesday to earn all-state honors.
After shooting a 94 in the opening round at Prairie Winds Golf Club on Monday, Moncur carded a 90 during the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 184, which put her eighth in the final standings. Tressa Bull of Burke/South Central held on to the top spot with a 167 for the tournament to edge teammate Taylee Indahl by a stroke for the medalist honors.
Courtney Frank of Deubrook Area was third at 173, while Makayla Kelley of Bon Homme was fourth at 177 and Josie Roth of Philip was fifth at 180.
Maddie Palmquist of Howard, who shared the lead after the opening round, had a 103 Tuesday to finish nine strokes off the pace she set the previous day and finished tied for 11th with a 187.
Zoe Tvedt of Highmore-Harrold slipped just out of all-state contention during the second day of competition. After shooting a 99 on Monday, she had a 103 Tuesday to finish at 202 and tied for spot No. 32 in the 90-plus golfer field.

Kaytlyn Maynard of Clark-Willow Lake and Skylar Maier of De Smet tied for spots No. 41 and 43, respectively, with scores of 207 and 208. Both shot 108 on Monday, but Maynard recorded a 99 on Tuesday, while Maier had a 100.
Savannah Vincent of De Smet matched her opening-round total of 107 on Tuesday to finish tied for 50th at 214.
Abby Rose Miller of James Valley Christian followed at 215. She improved five strokes during the second round with a 105 to claim spot No. 53.
Chloe Munsen of Wessington Springs used a 111 on Tuesday to finish 14 strokes better than she did on the opening day. She had a two-day total of 240 to share the 79th spot.
With the top two golfers in the field, Burke/South Central claimed the Class B girls’ championship with a score of 523. Deubrook Area jumped one spot during the second round to finish second at 542, while Howard was third at 545.
Rounding out the top five were Flandreau and Castlewood, respectively, with scores of 576 and 604.
