Mitchell inks win against Huron

HURON — Mitchell pulled away late for a 7-4 victory in a spring baseball game against Huron on Thursday at Klock Field.
Aided by an RBI-double from Bryce Steffen, the Tigers were able to open an early advantage, but Mitchell would pull even at 4-4 in the third inning.
The Kernels then scored two runs in the fourth inning to take its first lead of the game and held on for the victory.

Bailey Miller and Elijah Pommer each had two hits for Mitchell, while Briggs Havlik and Pommer each had a pair of RBIs.
Huron finished with six hits, including doubles by Steffen and Cully Nelson. Steffen and Matthew Katz each had an RBI.
Jared Miller, who relieved Calvin Hegg with one out in the second inning, earned the win on the mound for the Kernels. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, with one strikeout and two walks. Koby Larson pitched the final inning to earn the save.
Ricky Strubel pitched the first two innings for the Tigers, allowing three runs on two hits, while striking out two and walking three. Chipper Shillingstad pitched the final five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with a strikeout and two walks.
Huron, will now be off until Tuesday, when it will host Watertown in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at Klock Field.
