Never, ever give up hope

DOLAND — One out of every eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer; that could be you and me both.   What can I do, how can I help? First, if you are a woman 40 years of age or older, talk to your doctor and schedule a mammogram.
They only take about 15 minutes and there is short term pain, but it is worth it. Almost all insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid cover mammograms and the state of South Dakota also has a program called “All Women Count,” where you may be illegible for free/discounted screening.
Help save other women by spreading awareness, breast cancer can happen at any age.  Finding breast cancer early —when it’s small and has not spread — gives you more treatment choices and can help save your life.

Glenda McNutt, owner of Just Beecuz Floral & Gifts of Doland, started a fundraiser of her own, four years ago, to help spread breast cancer awareness.
With every dozen pink roses she sold throughout the month of October she donated $5 to Relay for Life of Spink County/Breast Cancer Research. Thirty-two dozen roses were delivered across the community this year including Doland, Conde, Turton, Redfield and Watertown.
McNutt says, “I have lost several family members to breast cancer and I have had several friends and family members diagnosed with breast cancer as well; it can happen to anyone at any age, and we need to make everyone aware to get their mammograms.
“To me, there is no better way,” McNutt added. “Every woman loves flowers. This was the fourth annual Pink Rose Special and with your help we can make it grow more and more each year.”
Each dozen roses was delivered with information from the American Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone that purchased roses this year and helped spread awareness to our community.
