Nicholas Pomerico, 82, of Huron

HURON — Nicholas Pomerico, 82, of Huron, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Huron Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side.


His funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Entombment will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.


Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening. A prayer service and time of sharing will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday evening.


Nicholas B. Pomerico was born January 11, 1939, to Vera and Anthony Pomerico, at Sioux City, Iowa. The family moved to Jefferson, when Nick was eight years old. He continued his education and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957. Nick then attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, where he graduated in 1962.


On May 25, 1963, Nick married Patricia Burnight at Jefferson. One son, Mark, was born to this union. They made their home in Huron, where Nick worked for the South Dakota Department of Social Services until 1981. At that time, he and Pat purchased Goldies Car Wash and Laundromat, which they operated until retirement.


Nick was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and the Huron Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing most sports, especially baseball.


He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Richard; and several aunts and uncles.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 58 years, Patricia of Huron; one son, Mark and his wife, Julie of Huron; two grandsons, Ryan and his wife, Ashten and Jeffrey, all of Huron; six great-grandchildren, Landon, Rydder, Royall, Bankks, Legend and Gemma; one brother, Floyd and his wife, Ann of Akron, Iowa; and one sister, Betty Jean of Pennsylvania.
