O’Gorman wins title at Yankton Invitational

YANKTON — Three of the four Sioux Falls O’Gorman golfers finished tied for fifth, allowing the Knights to claim the team title during the Yankton Invtational on Friday at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
It was the second title in as many days for O’Gorman, who won the Huron Invitational on Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course. The Knights finished with a score of 349.
Aberdeen Central was second at 357, while Yankton was third at 360. Rounding out the top five in the 11-team event were Rapid City Stevens at 364 and Pierre at 375.
Brookings and Huron did not qualify for team scores with only three golfers each in the event.

Cassidy Gough of Aberdeen Central earned the medalist honors with an 82, which give her a two-stroke winning margin.
Brooke Piearson of Brookings won a scorecard playoff to claim the second spot with an 84. Also shooting 84s were Natalie Young of Rapid City Stevens and Sydney Wirebaugh of Aberdeen Central.
Sharing the fifth spot with scores of 86 were Sioux Falls O’Gorman teammates Emily Olson, Carly Kunkel and Sophie Jansa, along with Elyse Owen of Rapid City Stevens.
Liz Duncan of Brandon Valley was ninth with an 87, followed by Linze Cowman of Yankton at 89.
Jayda Shillingstad turned in the top score for Huron with a 97, which placed her in a three-way tie for the 27th spot.
Mattie Huber and Karlie Bigelow finished at 109 and 110, respectively, for the Tigers.
Huron will now be off until May 12, when they participate in the Mitchell Invitational.
