Omaha Nation, Lower Brule to play for DOC girls’ title

HURON — The Omaha Nation girls’ basketball team landed a 57-43 win over the Tiospa Zina Wambdi, for a chance to win in the Championship round.
Shailece Porter led Omaha Nation with 28 points, including six three-pointers, while Mira Parker gathered 11 more points for the team. Omaha Nation finished the game with 11 field goals.  
Jordyn LaBlanc led the Wambdi, now dropped to 5-9 on the season, with 15 points, while Hailey Shepherd added six more.
Omaha Nation will play today at 6:30 p.m., while Tiospa Zina will play a consolation game at noon.

Lower Brule 67, Marty 46
The Lower Brule Lady Sioux took a 67-46 win over the Marty Lady Braves, en route to play in the Championship girls’ match on Saturday.
Aeianna Traversie led the Lady Sioux, now 10-3 on the season, with 23 points, which includes three three-point shots, while Maleighya Estes followed with 16 points, and Molly Jandreau added another 13, plus three more three-pointers.
The Lady Braves, who dropped their season record to 4-9 with the loss, were led by Apollonia Zephier with 12 points, followed by Lainey Honomichl with eight and Audra Iron Elk with seven.
The Lady Sioux will play Saturday evening for the championship, while the Lady Braves will play Saturday afternoon.

Consolation semifinals
Flandreau Indian School 65, Takini 32
The Flandreau Indian School’s Lady Indians exploded out of the blocks and defeated the Takini Lady Skyhawks Friday morning, in a consolation semifinal game at the DOC.
Joanna Fallis led a trio of Lady Indians in double figures with 20 points, including six three-pointers. Shaina Makes Him First added 19 points and Satara Red Tomahawk netted 15 counters in the game.
Takini, which falls to 0-8 with the loss, was led by Angel Condon’s 16 points, while Autumn Kills Crow added 12 points. The Lady Skyhawks notched a total of nine field goals in the game, six of them from behind the arc. Crazy Horse competes for fifth place today at noon, while Takini will seek to win the seventh-pace game against Tiospaye Topa at 9 a.m. this morning.

The Crazy Horse Lady Chiefs will play for fifth place today at the DOC, after a 69-56 win over the Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks Friday afternoon.
Diedre Roberts scored 15 points, Sequoia Bettleyoun netted 14 and Quintana Standing Soldier chipped in 13 as the Lady Chiefs climb to 3-10 with the win.
Tiospaye Topa got 14 points from Kobey Iron Wing and Shawnda White Face scored 13 for the Thunderhawks, who fall to 1-9 with the loss. Sunni Rousseau chipped in 11 for Tiospaye Topa.
