‘Pop! Goes the Piano’ recitals held

HURON — Students of Beverly J. Bigge presented two piano recitals with the theme, “Pop! Goes the Piano!” at the Centennial Stone Church on May 16. An awards ceremony followed each recital.
Emily Wedel, daughter of Brad and Helene Wedel, was awarded the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) fourth gold cup and  Bethany Larson, daughter of Mark and Tricia Larson, received the third gold cup.  Both students participated in piano solo and piano concerto events.
Second gold cups were presented to Allyson Boomsma (solo), Isabel Gilbert (solo), Anna Kruse (solo and duet), Bethany Larson (duet) and Victoria Larson (solo).
First gold cups were awarded to Lizzie Farmer, Sarah Fuerst, Kolby Hofer, Sutton Senska and Claire Trautman, all in piano solo.
Students receiving the Music Teachers National Association Study award for five or more years of study included:
• Five years: Hannah Farmer, Kate Hamilton, Brenna Held;
• Six years: Rachel Derksen, Victoria Larson, Abigail Pohl, Joy Trautman, Jed Waldner;
• Seven years: Allyson Boomsma, Isabel Gilbert, McKenzie Hofer, Abby Trandall;
• Eight years: Lizzie Farmer, Bethany Larson;

• Nine years: Kevin Baltzer, Claire Trautman;
• Ten years: Chelsea Hofer, Anna Kruse; and
• Eleven years: Jaime O’Neill, Abby Thomas, Emily Wedel.
Ribbons and certificates were presented to students who participated in the SD Bandmasters Association Elementary Piano Contest at Redfield, the SDHSAA Region 4 Solo/Ensemble Contest at Aberdeen and the NFMC Junior Music Festival at Huron.  Students were given awards for sharing music at nursing homes, church, school and community events.

• Memorization awards: Adam Farmer, Kate Hamilton, Alexandra Hohm, Audri Hohm, Elaina Hohm, Shiloh Senska and Sutton Senska
Bigge is a nationally certified teacher of music with the Music Teachers National Association and maintains a private studio in Huron.
