Post 7 drops pair to Sioux Falls East, 13U takes two

HURON — Huron baseball was busy Tuesday and Wednesday, but results were mixed as the top Legion team and the youngest teener team hosted doubleheaders.

The Huron Post 7 Legion team dropped a doubleheader to Sioux Falls East Wednesday at Memorial Stadium by scores of 16-3 and 6-3.

In the first game, Sioux Falls scored early and often, putting up multiple runs in five of the six innings before the run rule ended the contest.

Layne Wenzel opened the game on the mound, allowing five runs in one inning before Peyton Bischoff closed out the game, tossing the next five innings.

Dawsyn Rogers was the only Huron hitter to tally multiple hits in the game.

Sioux Falls East scored three runs in the first inning against Post 7, but Huron was able to stay with the visitors the rest of the way in the 6-3 loss, actually ending the game in the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded.

Mason Davis made the start for Huron, going three innings, allowing five runs and striking out three Sioux Falls hitters. Rogers relieved him and tossed four innings, allowing one unearned run, and striking out four.

Max Kranzler and Kolby Hofer each had a pair of hits in the night cap, with Hofer ripping a double as one of his hits. Kranzler was one of four Post 7 players to notch a steal in the second game, along with Tyson Lien, Peyton Grace, and Peyton Bischoff.

Huron falls to 5-8 with the losses. The next game for Huron will be hosting Mitchell on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Memorial Stadium, beginning at 5 p.m.

13U blasts Brookings

Huron’s 13U Teener squad hung 32 runs on visiting Brookings over a doubleheader sweep Tuesday night at Klock Field, winning by scores of 18-8 and 14-5.

The home nine trailed the first game 8-5 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, when they put up 13 runs to take the victory by run rule.

Jeremy Hofer started the game for Huron, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs and striking out four. Blaise Simmon closed out the game, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out a pair of Brookings hitters.

Simmon paced a trio of Huron hitters with multiple hits as he laced a pair of doubles on the day and also stole a base. Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles and stole two bases. Landon Schutt had a pair of singles.

Davis Chase powered a triple. Chase Schuchhardt stole two bases while Gavin Waldner, Kaleb Rashaad, and Hofer each had one steal.

Big innings in the third and fourth allowed Huron to win by run rule in the second game 14-5.

Schutt opened the game on the hill, tossing three innings and allowing two runs. He was relieved by Hunter Fenske, who tossed one inning, and Schuchhardt, who pitched the final inning.

The Huron offense was again led by Simmon, who drove in five of the team’s runs on three hits, one of which was a double.

Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles and two stolen bases in the night cap. Rashaad and Hofer each powered out a double while Chase added a triple.

Gavin Waldner stole two bases and Diego Colon added a steal for Huron.

The 13U club moves to 7-6 with the victories heading into the Cubby’s Classic tournament in Brookings beginning Friday, the first games the 13U team will play away from the comfy confines of Klock Field this season.
