Post 7 splits DH against Pierre

PIERRE – The Huron Post 7 Tigers split a pair of games Monday evening against Pierre Post 8 in Pierre, winning the first 17-7 before dropping the nightcap 5-4.

The Tigers put up five runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back in the opener to earn a 17-7 victory.

Jack Pedersen tossed six innings for Huron, allowing seven runs on eight hits and four walks, striking out three.

Bubba Peterson led the Tigers hitters with four hits and a walk, including a triple. Ethan Busch had a single and a triple.

Layne Wenzel and Logan Leyendecker each had a pair of singles as the Tigers totaled 14 hits and 21 base runners overall.

Huron fell behind 2-0 early in the second game, but crawled back into the game in the fifth inning and held a 4-2 lead after six, but Pierre scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-4 win.

Wenzel allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings on nine hits and two walks while striking out six. Leyendecker came in and struck out the final out for Huron.

Trace Wenz had a pair of singles and a walk from the leadoff spot to lead Post 7’s offense.

The Tigers take a 7-13 record into Thursday evening’s doubleheader against Brookings at Memorial Field.
