SIOUX FALLS — The Huron boys’ tennis team came away from the State Meet, which ended Saturday in Sioux Falls, with a pair of place winners in doubles competition.
Roger Puterbaugh and Moo Sher Say capped their season at No. 3 doubles for the Tigers with a 10-8 victory against  Alex Tennant and Lincoln Wilkinson of Aberdeen Central to win the consolation championship. It was the fourth straight win for the Huron duo after they suffered a setback in their opening match.
The No. 2 doubles team for the Tigers, which was made up by Eh Dah and Eh Kalu, battled Michael Tang and Max Riker of Rapid City Stevens for fifth place on Saturday. The Stevens duo recorded a 10-6 victory leaving the Huron team sixth in the final standings.
“Our No. 2 doubles had a great tournament, finishing sixth, and our No. 3 doubles finished our tournament out with a consolation championship,” Huron coach Tim Hedblom said.

With champions in five of the six singles flights and two of the three doubles flights, Sioux Falls Lincoln claimed its sixth consecutive state title with 689 points. Sioux Falls O’Gorman was second in the 24-team event, with 613. Rounding out the top five were Rapid City Stevens at 395, Sioux Falls Washington at 376 and Brandon Valley at 376.
Huron fell a half a point short of catching Aberdeen Central for the 11th spot in the final standings.
“It was our highest point total in seven years,” Hedblom said. “We had a couple matches that could have went either way, and if they go in our favor, we would have finished in the top 10.
“We had a great season and the future looks bright for Huron Tiger tennis,” he said.
