MILLER — The Third Annual Dog Days of Summer Big Dog Race capped the 2017 racing season on Sunday at Miller Central Speedway.
The Pump N Pak pure stocks led off the night with with Brandon Hammill leading the first lap before jumping the cushion in turn four, dropping to third behind his father Mike Hammill and Luke Johnson.
Johnson started closing in on Mike Hammill as the laps ran down, passing him at the white flag for the win. It was Luke Johnson, Mike Hammill, Brandon Hammill and Destrie Morris at the finish. It was Luke Johnson’s third feature win at the Miller Central Speedway.
Broc Stout led from start to finish to earn his 17th feature win in the street stock division.. The win tied him with Michael Bogh  for second on the all-time wins list in the divison at Miller Central Speedway.
Bogh finished second to Stout on Sunday and was followed by Travis Oxandaburu, Curt Grace and Robert Ross.
The WISSOTA Midwest modifieds looked to be a classic right off of the bat, with 2007 WISSOTA Midwest modified champion and 2008 WISSOTA 100 MW mod winner Brock Gronwold of Fergus Falls, Minn., getting the pole on the draw/redraw format with 10 time track champion Lorin Johnson starting ninth.
A first-lap accident in turn four sent Nathan Grehl and Brandon Hoftiezer off on the hook.
Gronwold took off on the restart but Johnson was coming through the field like a shark, and he passed Gronwold for the lead on lap seven. Gronwold took it back on lap 11, but a caution for a hard two car crash in turn four with three laps to go put Johnson on the leader’s bumper.
Johnson took the lead at the white flag with Gronwold in hot pursuit. Coming down for the checkered flag, it looked like they might get together with Lane Johnson is position in case that happened. Lorin Johnson held on, while his son Lane, nipped Gronwold at the line for second by a foot. Taylor Schmidt and James Reiner rounded out the top five.
It was Lorin Johnson’s 73rd MW Mod feature win at the Miller Central Speedway.
The WISSOTA modifieds were short in numbers, but David McDonald led the first nine laps before his car quit, leaving the lead for his son, Tyler.
Nick Grehl and Duane Zabel put on a dogfight for second.
At the end it was Tyler McDonald, Grehl and Zabel. It was McDonald’s ninth feature win at Miller.
The WISSOTA super stocks had a good turnout with Kip Myers leading the first six laps before Cole Searing got the jump on a restart.
On the next restart there was a big crash on the front straight just past the green flag with Dale Tomes and Casey Hanson going off on the hook, but Alan Dorris and Kipp DeGroot made the restart.

Searing led the rest of the way over Kip Myers, Tyler Myers, Kelly Duffy and Caleb Yost. It was Searing’s 34th feature win in the class.
The WISSOTA late models capped off the night with David McDonald leading the first 14 laps from the pole, while Chad Becker worked his way up from seventh starting spot.
Becker would pass McDonald for the win. Brian Diede was third, then came Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., who is currently second in national points behind Becker. Chad Olsen rounded out the top five.
