HURON — With three successful Smoke Alarm Installation Campaigns under its belt, the Huron Red Cross group of volunteers are branching out.
“The local volunteers are partnering with the Huron Fire Department and the Cavour Volunteer firefighters, to install smoke alarms in homes in Cavour on Saturday, Oct. 14,” said local organizer Charlotte Henley.
“We have had three successful Smoke Alarm Installation - now officially called Sound the Alarm - campaigns in Huron, and we felt we needed to spread our efforts to the small surrounding communities.”
This past weekend, Henley said volunteers from the Center for Independence canvassed Cavour with door hangers, announcing the upcoming smoke alarm campaign this weekend.
Henley said that it was through the Red Cross partnership with the Huron Fire Department that the decision was made. “It was actually the Huron Fire Department that suggested that we target a smaller community in the fall and continue to do the Huron Sound the Alarm in the spring.”
She added that she appreciates the support of the United Way in the continuing efforts of the Red Cross.
