Redfield wrestlers win Region 1B title; qualify 12 for Class B State Tournament

GROTON — With seven wrestlers winning championships and five others reaching title matches, Redfield Area claimed the Region 1B wrestling title on Saturday. All 12 wrestlers will advance to the Class B State Tournament, which begins Thursday in Rapid City.

The Pheasants amassed 263 points, which put them 127 points ahead of second-placed Kingsbury County, which qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament.

Clark/Willow Lake, which had three individual champions and five qualify for state, was third at 127.5.

Sisseton was fourth in the 17-team event with 78 points, while Groton Area was fifth at 77.

Winning titles for Redfield Area were Brady Risetter at 106 pounds, Keaton Rohlfs at 126, Bradyn Robbins at 138, Mason Fey at 145, Dylan Whitley at 160, Sean Domke at 195 and Grady Fey at 220.

Finishing second for the Pheasants were Mason Whitley at 113, Jacob Fehlman at 120, Cullen McNeil at 160, Corbin Schwartz at 182 and Gavin Nichols at 285.

Gunnar Kvistad at 120, Lucas Kannegieter at 170 and Gage Burke at 182 won titles for Clark/Willow Lake. Avery Nichols was third at 285 and Chase Chambers was fourth at 145.

Dylan Zell at 126, Alec Dobson at 138, Matthew Steffensen at 145 and Kain Gilligan at 220 were all second for Kingsbury County. Gannon Gilligan at 106, Sheldon Balderston at 120 and Nate Kersting at 182 were third.
