HURON — A luncheon hosted Monday by the Beadle County Republican party featured the party’s candidates for District 22 House and Senate.

District 22 Senate candidate David Wheeler is running unopposed, and he discussed his experience working on the Huron School Board and Community Campus board as well as state boards, such as the state’s Lottery Commission.

Wheeler will replace Senator Jim White, who was term-limited. Wheeler commented that as he is running unopposed, he has already received phone calls from other Senators across the state to discuss upcoming legislation.

Wheeler stated that he would like to focus on three main areas in Pierre  — education, boosting and protecting local government, and protecting individual freedoms.

Representative Lynn Schneider spoke of his experience replacing former District 22 representative Bob Glanzer when Glanzer passed away due to COVID-19. He spoke of working with Glanzer as Glanzer’s campaign treasurer and reviewing the bills Glanzer would be discussing in Pierre when Bob would return home on weekends.

Schneider discussed his background working in finance in the Huron area and on multiple boards in the Huron area, including the Huron Regional Medical Center board and the school boards for both Huron public schools and James Valley Christian school.

Roger Chase spoke about his service in the House over the past four years. He mentioned that he has worked well with Lynn Schneider around Huron professionally for years, and he mentioned that the three Republican candidates running from District 22 can work well together to serve the district between the S.D. Senate and S.D. House.

Each candidate discussed their backgrounds in the Huron area, growing up in the area, and building careers in the Huron area in their respective fields.

The next Republican party forum on Oct. 26 at noon will feature S.D. Secretary of State Steve Barnett. Lunch will be provided.
