HURON — Rita M. Lundberg, 83, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
In accordance with Rita’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment service will take place in the mausoleum at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a public memorial mass determined by the family to be held at a later date.
Rita M. (Starzl) Pederson-Lundberg was born October 15, 1933, to Wencl and Irma (Rounseville) Starzl. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1951. She married Jens T. Pederson, Jr. at Pipestone, Minn. on November 23, 1951. Jens passed away on March 14, 1954.
She attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron and graduated in March of 1956, and later that year married Gaylord “Gus” Lundberg on June 1, 1956 at St. Martins Catholic Church in Huron. She was then employed as the Beadle County Court Reporter from 1956 to 1960; district county court reporter 1969 to 1975; and Circuit Court reporter 1975-1983.
Rita was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish where she served as a lay minister of communion, and was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and many other church related groups.
Rita is survived by her husband, Gaylord “Gus” Lundberg of Huron; two daughters, Gayleen (Kevin) Parsons of Huron and Kathy (Steven) Wagenaar of Aberdeen; one son, Michael (April) Lundberg of Watertown; grandchildren, Cole (Becky) Wagenaar of  Oroville, Calif., Case (Tess) Wagenaar of Grand Forks, N.D., Megan (Chad) Flemming of Watertown, Seth (Danielle) Lundberg of Dilworth, Minn., Sherry (John) Jackson of Sioux Falls, and Darrel Parsons of Aberdeen; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Lozetta (Tom) Doll of Lyle, Wash.; and one sister-in-law, Carol Starzl of Centerville. She was preceded in death by her first husband; parents; brother, Herbert Starzl; four half-sisters, five half-brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
