HURON — Robert E. Schnabel, 84, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. 
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, October 6, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Virgil Cemetery.
Robert “Bobby” Schnabel was born April 9, 1933, near Wolsey to Henry F. and Beatrice (Nuss) Schnabel. He lived in Wolsey and Redfield until moving to Huron in 1948. He lived at the Center for Independence for many years where he received training, learned skills, and held several jobs. He was close to his sister, Pauline, who also lived at the Center, until she passed away in 2011.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching T.V., outdoor concerts, and pretending to read the newspaper. He also loved attending church weekly and most recently attended, Huron Christian Church. He will be remembered for his happy demeanor, willingness to help, and his silly side, frequently playing the jokester.
He is survived by his brother, Jack L. (Gloria) Schnabel of Yucaipa, Calif.; seven nieces, Sharon, Sheila, Tara, Marla, Christie, Melanie, and Cheryl; five nephews, Ron, Roger, Richard, Michael, and Craig; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur Schnabel, Marilyn S. Allred, and Pauline Schnabel; and nieces, Denise Schnabel, and Vicki Schnabel.
