OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Robert Henry Franks, 86, of Oceanside, Calif. and formerly of Huron, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018.
A funeral service with military honors, will be held Thursday, August, 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside.
Robert was born June 5, 1932, in Denver, Colo. The family moved to Sitka, Alaska where he grew up. He was a Boy Scout and at age 15 attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Paris, France in 1947. In Sitka, he worked in carpentry with his father. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ehmann on September 10, 1955, in Denver, Colo. With a Master’s Degree in Library Science, he was head Librarian at Ella McIntire Library at Huron College from 1968 to 1979. He was a Scoutmaster for the Huron Boy Scouts. He and Dorothy retired to Oceanside, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four children, Cheryl (Clint) Bartel of Huron, Debra (Corby) Angle of N.Y., Susan (Alvis) Floyd, and Darlene (Jeremy) Hehl both of Oceanside, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
