CANOVA — Robert “Pete” Gosmire, 89, of Canova, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Lake Norden Care Center in Lake Norden.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard with burial at a later date. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday with a prayer service at 5 p.m. at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
Robert “Pete” Gosmire was born February 20, 1928, in Canova to Arthur and Hattie (Kruescher) Gosmire. He grew up on the family farm, was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Canova, and attended Burbank Country School through eighth grade, and later attended Burbank High School, graduating in 1946.
After graduating, he worked on the family farm with his older brother, Howard, until 1950, when Howard enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He took care of the farm until Howard’s return in 1952, when they began running the farming operation together. The brothers had to grow up fast after their father died at a young age. They were hard workers and not only raised crops, but also pigs and chickens. He enjoyed fishing, playing softball, playing cards, and socializing. He loved dogs and cared for many a stray cat.  He was a loving uncle, cousin, and friend to so many and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Phyllis Bauer, and Jessie Cordell; and most recently, his beloved brother and best friend, Howard gosmore.
