Roberts earns All-ESD honor for Tigers

MITCHELL — With five golfers inside the top 10, Yankton claimed the Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ golf title on Saturday at Lakeview Golf Course.

The Bucks finished with a score of 305, which put them five strokes in front of Harrisburg. Brandon Valley as third at 324, followed by Mitchell at 332 and Brookings at 337 to round out the top five.

Completing the field of teams were Aberdeen Central 339, Pierre at 356 and Huron at 357.

Henry Homstad won the individual ESD title for Yankton with a round of 74, while teammate Landon Moe and Harrsiburg teammates Will Allen and Tyson Kogel shared the second spot with scores of 75.

Macon Larson of Mitchell was fifth with a 76, while Austin Frick of Yankton, Emmet Hansen of Brandon Valley and Brayden Jones of Aberdeen Central shared the sixth spot with scores of 77.

Finishing in a three-way tie for ninth were Yankton teammates Jimmie Cunningham and Gavin Haselhorst, along with Owen Sanders of Brandon Valley. They all carded scores of 79.

Landon Roberts finished in a tie for the No. 12 spot with a score of 80 to earn All-ESD Conference honors for Huron.

Will Smith shot an 83 to finish tied for 19th for the Tigers. Rounding out the roster were Jaren Schley with a 95, Aiden Zaveskey with a 99, Landon Mohr with a 112 and Kaiser Ruth with a 117.

The Huron boys’ golf team will close the season at the Class AA State Meet, which is scheduled for Oct. 5-6 at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
