YANKTON — Huron’s Landon Roberts challenged for the top spot during the Yankton Invitational on Friday at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.
Roberts shot at 3-over-par 75, which put him one stroke behind Jacob Stewart of O’Gorman, who was the medalist with a 74.
With a 75, Roberts finished tied with Riley Christensen of Harrisburg, who was awarded the second spot based on a scorecard playoff.
Roberts was third, while Williams Sanford of O’Gorman was fourth at 76.
Finishing tied for the fifth spot with scores of 77 were Austin Merrow of Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Jack Hilgenberg of Sioux Falls Lincoln, Bennett Geraets of Sioux Falls Lincoln, Luke Honner of Sioux Falls Lincoln, Jake Olson of Watertown and Will Hurd of O’Gorman.
Aiden Zavesky, who was the only other golfer in the field for Huron, was 83rd with a 109.
O’Gorman claimed the team title with a 305, while Sioux Falls Lincoln was second at 316. Harrisburg was third at 320, followed by Watertown at 331. Pierre, Tea Area and Yankton all finished at 338, but Pierre won a scorecard playoff to secure the fifth spot in the 14-team event.
Huron will travel to compete in the Brookings Invitational at 10 a.m. Monday.
