Rustlers sweep matches at Milbank Triangular

MILBANK – Miller swept the host Milbank Bulldogs Saturday at the Milbank Triangular by a score of 25-22, 25-16, 25-16.

The Rustlers were led by Storm Johnsen with 15 kills on 37 of 44 attacks on the day. Johnsen also led the team with 17 digs.

Alvena Batin set up the Miller attack, going 92 of 93 setting with 25 assists and adding 11 digs. Kathryn Aymar was 15 of 15 serving with a pair of aces for the Rustlers. Macie Werdel added 11 digs.

Milbank (1-12) was paced on defense by Hallie Schulte with 27 digs. Siri Bien led the Bulldogs with eight kills on 14 of 18 attacks.

Averie Engebretson set up Milbank’s attack, going 42 of 43 setting with 13 assists.

Miller 3, Beresford 0
MILBANK – To finish a successful triangular Saturday, the Miller Rustlers defeated the Beresford Watchdogs in straight sets, 26-24, 25-15, 25-21.

Miller moved to 5-10 on the season with the victory behind a big overall game from Storm Johnsen.

Johnsen led the Rustlers with 13 kills on 31 of 37 hitting while also pacing the team with 18 digs and recording three blocks.

Alvena Batin put the Miller offense in place with 30 assists. Kathryn Aymar had 13 digs while Macie Wendel had 10 digs and also was 9 of 10 serving with a pair of aces.

Beresford fell to 3-15 with the loss. Rachel Zanter paced the Watchdog defense with 13 digs. Kara Niles and Kielee Otten led the team with four kills apiece while Larissa Tiedeman posted five assists.

Miller hosts Wolsey-Wessington Monday.

Lake Preston 2, De Smet 0
DE SMET — De Smet served as the host site for seeds No. 7-9 in the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Lake Preston earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against De Smet. The set scores were 25-18 and 25-23.

Jocelyn Steffensen and Holly Andrews each had two aces for the Lady Divers. Andrews also had seven assists.

Alice Warne had eight kills for Lake Preston, while Annika Nelson and Marissa Rober added six and four kills, respectively. Ava Malone had 13 digs, while Steffensen finished with 10 digs. Nelson and Warne each had a block.

Cori Birkel and Kennadi Buchholz had seven and six kills, respectively, for De Smet. Olivia Johnson had two aces and a team-high 12 digs.

Katelyn Halverson had seven assists for the Lady Bulldogs, while Emma Albrecht had five assists. Jacie McCune and Albrecht each had five digs.


Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 2, De Smet 0
With set scores of 25-11 and 25-22, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland got past De Smet 2-0.

Julia Trygstad had nine kills for the Raiders, while Alivia Bickett added seven kills. Bailey Hyland recorded four aces an Paige Hanson had 12 assists.

Bickett had a team-high 12 digs for ORR, while Trygstad had two blocks.

Albrecht and McCune each had an ace for De Smet. Buchholz finished with six kills, while Birkel had four and Johnson had three.

Halverson tallied four assists for the Lady Bulldogs and Albrecht had three assists to go along with nine digs. Buchholz had three blocks.

De Smet, which is now 5-14, will travel to play Castlewood on Tuesday.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland got past Lake Preston 25-22 and 25-23 in the other match on Saturday.
